Abra Rogers, Portland Doula
Passionate about normalizing postpartum care, I’m committed to providing personalized support and education to assist new parents in navigating the intricacies of their evolving family dynamics. With over a decade of experience as a postpartum doula, I expanded my expertise by attending midwifery school and becoming a licensed midwife in 2010. Even in my midwifery practice, my focus remained on the postpartum period, serving at a birth center in Oceanside, CA. Three years ago, I relocated to Portland, where I’ve dedicated my efforts solely to postpartum care.
Becoming a mother on March 31st of this year was a transformative experience. I had the joy of an incredible home birth and witnessed firsthand the immense value of postpartum care, especially with my husband’s unwavering support as he took a month off to provide exceptional care. His dedication fueled my desire to further excel as a postpartum doula. Amidst my own breastfeeding challenges, I gained profound insights beyond my formal lactation education and midwifery training—a silver lining, indeed.
In my role as a postpartum doula, I create a nurturing environment during the most vulnerable moments while also infusing positivity and humor into challenging situations. My expertise spans twins and single-child care, offering informative responses and always seeking permission before sharing advice. My passion for lactation deepened after my personal journey, granting me comprehensive knowledge in milk production, various pump systems, resolving clogged ducts, optimal positioning, triple feeding, supplemental nursing systems, combination feeding, formula feeding, and more. I have hands-on experience in cloth diapering, elimination communication, and have extensively researched safe diaper and wipe ingredients. I take pleasure in assisting with postpartum and nursery setups, have extensive baby- wearing experience, and engage in product testing.
Outside of my work, I cherish moments with my family. Motherhood fulfills a lifelong dream, and I revel in activities like skiing, camping, swimming, hiking, and traveling. Originally from Colorado, my journey led me to San Diego for midwifery school, but my heart yearned for the mountains, eventually guiding me to Portland, my cherished home for the past three years and a place I plan to stay and make lasting connections. I’m eager to support your family’s unique needs and thrive on connecting with new families during the precious postpartum period of life.
