Allissa LaPort, Portland Doula
I see the perinatal time as a sacred experience for all involved. There is something so special and revering about the experience of bringing new life, it fosters a deep connection with all involved. The postpartum period is such a crucial and special time for families and everyone deserves support, respect, and to be heard during this foundational time. My goal as a postpartum doula is to help navigate this experience so it can be a positive, supportive, and informative season of growth. I have always felt a deep connection and understanding with families who experience special or challenging circumstances.
I have been blessed to be called to the work of women’s and children’s care since becoming a nurse in 2011. Being called to work in varying capacities through nursing and through life has expanded my knowledge and understanding of the perinatal and postpartum experience. I specialize in working with families who have experienced high risk pregnancies and deliveries, NICU babies, multiples, cesarean recovery, trauma informed care, LGBTQIA families, and families with special needs. Together with your support system, we will work to find a way to foster and grow through this experience.
Before moving to Portland, I was an overnight nurse at a level 1 trauma high risk center in NY where I was once a patient myself in my youth. I relocated to Portland as a travel nurse and enjoy traveling, learning, reading, researching, and continued professional development. In my spare time I enjoy watching and coaching Track and Field, charcuterie (making and eating,), and running.
