Amanda Squires-Gil, Portland Doula

Postpartum doesn’t have to be a period of overwhelm, exhaustion, and isolation. Postpartum can be beautiful, ceremonial, transformative, empowering, mindful, spiritual and truly divine. Trusting in your body, trusting in your intuition and trusting in your ability to segue into parenthood with the grace and peace that are inherent to who you are is more than possible.

I’ll be there to lift you up as you carve YOUR path forward and to hold you as you settle into the role of parent. As a mother of two who has navigated two very different birth and postpartum experiences, and as a birth and postpartum doula for the past 5 years, I’ve had the opportunity to serve many different families and consider it the greatest honor of my life! Postpartum can be a rollercoaster and sometimes you just need a little light to help guide you back to yourself. I’d love to be that light for you.

I specialize in anti-racist, culturally competent support for anyone who would appreciate some serious TLC throughout their postpartum experience. I have worked for years within some of the world’s largest companies and specialize in the healing and empowerment of new parents looking to maintain their peace as they re-enter the work-force postpartum.

Amanda’s Testimonials

I connected with Amanda the moment I met her. She is full of life, warmth, and wisdom. Her presence drew me in and I felt a connection to her. Our prenatal sessions were informative and comfortable as Amanda approached the conversations with expertise and sensitivity. She was the backbone of the birth experience, reminding me to relax my shoulders, giving helpful positions, being the constant professional voice of support and care, etc. Amanda was also quite keen to the atmosphere of the situation. For example, she was able to sense when my husband and I needed some time alone in the birthing room and stepped out for a short time after asking us if that was okay. I wasn’t afraid to let her know my needs as they changed throughout labor. Our postpartum visit was just what I needed at that time and, per usual, she was understanding, discerning, and attentive to my needs. She has a lot of spunk too which I very much needed and appreciated. Thank you Amanda for stepping into this role for me and my husband!

“Amanda is amazing!!! During my very stressful first pregnancy Amanda was there. She was very attentive to details. Whenever I had a question about anything pregnancy and birthing wise, she always had or found out an answer. Amanda made sure that I fully understood what was happening and gave me resources and helped me come up with questions to ask my care providers. Amanda made sure that my voice and thoughts mattered to the busy nurses and doctors. Amanda is so thoughtful and caring. During the actual birth /labor, I was having horrific labor pains. My husband and I really appreciate the way she came to support us through our birthing experience. I would definitely recommend Amanda as a doula again! She is a rare kind of person, who will go above and beyond to satisfy the needs of her clients! If you’re thinking about a doula, she is the best!”

“I am so, so happy that Amanda was my doula, I cannot recommend her enough!  She has the most positive spirit and energy, and made an effort to connect with me and what I wanted out of my birth experience.  She was so very supportive leading up to my son’s birth, and I cannot imagine what labor and delivery would have been like had she not been there.  She gave relief to not only me, but also to my husband.  We were a team!  And she always kept our wishes in mind, never getting her feelings hurt or pushing her own agenda, all while staying positive and gentle.  She really made the birth about me and my family, we love Amanda!”
