Autumn Davidson, Portland Doula

I believe that birth is a transformative experience, and that each birthing person deserves to undergo this world-shaking transformation feeling empowered and supported. My goal as your doula is to help you attempt the birth story of your dreams, give you the information you need to advocate for yourself, and assist you during labor to find the experience that was meant for you. We will dive into your preferences, specific needs and coping methods, and fears and feelings around birth so that you feel prepared to advocate for the birth story you envision, and ready to birth your baby in your power and supported by your birth team. I would love to be in your corner and support you in any way that helps you feel cared for, respected, and seen. Together, we will tailor your experience so that you receive exactly the care you’re looking for.

I have been professionally trained to offer birth support through DONA-approved doula training with MotherTree Birth Services, and have also completed a 120-hour intensive hands-on internship under established and experienced doula mentors. I volunteer with Gateway Doulas in Portland for on-call shifts at Adventist Health. I am BLS certified and have undergone education around trauma-informed care, cultural competency, HIPPA, and interprofessional collaboration. I also have a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science and have worked as an Executive Assistant to c-suite professionals in both the cannabis and psychedelic spaces. Anticipation of client needs and proactive caregiving have always been staples in my professional life.

In my personal life, I enjoy hiking, cross stitch, painting, yoga, tea, sarcasm, and writing. I identify as pansexual, and have been with my partner for 7 years. I gave birth to my daughter in July of 2021. My empowering home-birth experience sparked my passion for birth work and helping others find their own satisfying births. I’m a natural nurturer and caregiver – too bad my 2 year old can’t write me a review! This is the work I am passionate about. I can’t wait to be your doula.

Autumn’s Testimonials

“I recently had the pleasure of working with Autumn. She is a great birth doula who provided us exceptional support throughout my entire pregnancy journey. From the very first meeting until well beyond the labor and delivery, her dedication and expertise helped make my experience that much better. I cannot recommend her highly enough! During the pre-labor phase, Autumn went above and beyond to ensure that I felt empowered, informed, and emotionally supported. She took the time to listen attentively to my concerns, fears, and desires, providing insightful guidance and evidence-based information to help me make informed decisions. All of this made me feel confident and at ease as my due date approached. When the time came for labor and delivery, Autumn’s presence and support was invaluable. She provided continuous encouragement, comforting me and helping with practical coping tools. While labor and contractions were not easy, Autumn’s cool and calm demeanor and understanding of positions and counter pressure really helped me get through.  Autumn also was a seamless fit with the wider medical team at the hospital. She listened and collaborated and graciously adjusted on the fly as the situation evolved.  She always gave me ample space to make decisions as labor progressed and I never felt rushed or pressured. Autumn has a genuine passion for her work as a doula. She has a great ability and way about her that builds trust and creates a safe and nurturing space for the birthing journey. I wholeheartedly recommend Autumn to any expecting parent looking for quality support throughout the pregnancy, labor, and postpartum experience.”

Autumn was everything I needed in a doula and more. From foot rubs to distracting conversations, she helped every step of the way and made it a comforting experience. I left the hospital knowing I could count on her if needed and inspired me to look into doing doula work myself! She also gave me fuzzy socks when I was cold! If you’re thinking about getting a doula for your birth, she’s your girl.

At 35 week pregnant I realized I needed to find a doula because I know my husband and he’s not the type to give physical and emotional support at birth. Out of 10 doulas that I contacted, only Autumn responded to me in a timely manner. Autumn was able to provide me a discounted rate with all services. Autumn gave me a lot of good information before I went into labor as well as postpartum information. She is professional and answers her phone within minutes. Autumn came over to my house even though I was having false labor and worked through them with me. During real labor Autumn was so kind to do everything I asked for as well as offering suggestions to better care for me. An extra pair of hands really goes a long way. After my birth Autumn held my newborn so that my husband could help me with the shower. Overall Autumn was a really great doula and I would recommend her as well as use her services again. What I love most about Autumn is she does not judge and supports all my decisions. She is genuine, kind hearted, and sympathetic. Thank you.
