Portland Birth Doula Camilla Rae

Camilla Rae, Portland Doula

With over 20 years of infant care experience, it wouldn’t be an understatement to say I am passionate about birth, parenting, and all things baby. Working with expanding families during the perinatal year continues to deepen my love for this calling. I am drawn to birth by a deep seated belief that gentle and thoughtful beginnings have the power to heal. I started my higher educational career at Reed College studying sociology with an emphasis on social justice and diversity. So it should come as no surprise that in my spare time, I love nerding out to the latest research on pregnancy and keeping up to date on modern and traditional birth practices.

In February of 2018, I welcomed my first child, Maverick, into my family. His presence has been a welcome reminder to slow down and rediscover wonder. I enjoy sewing, traveling and spending time in my community.

Partnership Model

Atika Hagen and I work in partnership to provide amazing doula support to our clients. Our partnership model is designed to ensure continuity of care. When you hire us your growing family will reap the benefits, at no extra cost, of having two doulas on your birthing team. Atika and I will both attend prenatal and postpartum doula visits, offer you emotional, physical, and informational support during your perinatal year, and be on-call for you during your birthing window. One of us will show up when you go into labor while the other doula waits in the wings should you decide you need more help coping or want fresh energy during longer labors. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to know more about how our partnership can work best for you. We look forward to serving your family!

Camilla’s Testimonials

Thank you for being such an amazing woman and loving, supporting spirit. This birthing experience wouldn’t have been the same without you.

Kathleen, N Portland

Your presence during labor was incredible. You have a gift in helping people feel calm and supported… I am so grateful that you were a part of this process.

Julie & David, Sauvie Island

Thank you for welcoming our baby earthside and for all of the encouragement and support you have offered our family.

Lynette & Omar, NW Portland

What I remember about S’s birth is that as soon as I saw you walking towards us with your bright smile I knew everything was going to be okay. You brought peace and calm with you and I was able to ground myself into contractions as you guided my breath down. When we found out we were pregnant again, you were the first person we wanted to call. We both felt like baby I deserved the support for a gentle welcome. Thank you for being our doula!

Brynn & Tim, NE Portland

Words cannot describe our thanks for being such an amazing doula to us and part of the best birth team! Your massage, calm energy, and intuition helped me more than you will ever know. You have such a gift as a healer.

Sarah & Rex, SE Portland

You have all of the soft skills that you can’t learn in a classroom. You always were anticipating my next need. From having the shower running to having a sip of water available. You helped me reach my goals of having an unmedicated vaginal birth by reminding me I was strong and powerful. And I will never forget during crowning looking up and seeing you holding our toddler and giving her comfort and reassurance. She, to this day, talks about how ‘once there wasn’t a baby’s head and then all of a sudden there was!

Annette & Daniel, NE Portland

Every opportunity you saw to include me in the birth was incredible. The nurses kept coming between me and [Chanel]. You gracefully helped to carve space for me to care for and support my wife. It was like you were our coach getting me off the sidelines and into the game.

Marshall & Chanel, NE Portland
