Hannah Javia, Portland Doula
My favorite activity in the entire world is to be your birth doula. I want to know about you, your aspirations, and your fears. I’d love to hear about your new favorite ice cream shop, the funny thing your three-year-old said, or that cross-country road trip you took in 2017. I want to understand what aspects and experiences shape you the most, how these details have had a hand in your pregnancy, and what will help promote a satisfying birthing experience. Understanding what makes you feel loved, listened to, and accepted is my goal as your birth doula.
To me, being part of your birth team means bringing a sense of steadiness, unbiased support, unwavering encouragement, and even comic relief. Both in appointments and during labor, my aim is to provide absolute presence and attentiveness; I love to hone in on exactly what doula support means to you and your family. I hold true in my gut that everyone deserves to attempt the birth of their own vision in a calm, safe, and supported environment – and being your ally is truly an honor of a lifetime!
When not doula-ing, I enjoy picnicking through those long summer days, attempting not to fall on my clip-in road bike, and going camping underneath the pines (can you tell I’m a sun person?). My weekly ritual includes juicing on Sunday and watching Survivor on Thursday night. Much of my free time is spent trying to be the world’s coolest aunt to my young niece and nephews, who all live in town. I currently live in NE Portland with my incredible partner Rishi.
