We offer a variety of in-person childbirth preparation classes and parenting classes at our beautiful Education Center in SW Portland, just off of the I-5. Check out our class options below!

Hands-On Birth Preparation Class

In-Person Class

This 4 hour class, 1pm-5:30pm. Upcoming dates: May 1, May 8, June 5, June 12, July 10, July 17, August 7, August 14, September 11, and September 18

This hands-on labor preparation class is offered twice a month and is an excellent way to prepare for your upcoming childbirth experience. In this class we will cover the basics of birth anatomy, the hormones of birth, the stages of labor and what to expect, as well as how to support your mind, body, and heart through the journey. We will introduce and practice comfort and coping techniques as well as labor positions, and you and your support person will have a chance to practice together. When you finish this class, you and your support person will walk away understanding the stages of labor and which coping strategies and positions will be helpful, as well as having a good understanding of what additional tools will be available to you at your birth location.

One Day Lamaze-Based Birth Preparation Class

Join Trina Baumgartner for this One Day Lamaze-Based Birth Preparation Class! This class is perfect for those who are looking for a one-day deep dive experience. We will cover pregnant anatomy and how to support the body in birth through the Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices.  We will learn all about the stages of labor, labor positions, and comfort techniques with plenty of hands-on practice.  We will also explore the vast array of birth choices, induction, informed decision-making, and cesarean birth. 

Included in your class is a copy of the My Birth Preparation Workbook! My Birth Preparation Workbook serves as a loving guide and companion as you prepare for birth. Filled with tips, education, and self-exploration opportunities, this workbook offers one place to hold your preparation journey so that you can birth your way. Take this with you as you attend your prenatal appointments, childbirth education classes, and meetings with your doula. Let it open conversation and deep communication between you and your partner and you and your heart.

Trina Baumgartner is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, Birth Story Listener and RYT200 Yoga Teacher with certification in Prenatal Yoga. Newborn Care 101: The First Month

In-Person Class

This is a 3 hour class, 9:30am-12:30pm. Upcoming dates: May 1, June 5, July 10, August 7

This parenting class is taught by an experienced postpartum doula and explains how to care for your newborn baby including diapering, swaddling, soothing, infant bathing, babywearing, and much more! While there is no official handbook on babies, this parenting class is the cliff notes version – with hands-on practice! Taught by Bridgetown Baby Postpartum Doulas.

Newborn Feeding Basics

In-Person Class

This is a 3 hour class. Upcoming dates: May 7 (1pm-4pm), June 12 (9:30am-12:30pm)

This class will prepare you and your partner to feed your baby with confidence! An experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will cover the basics to get you and your baby off to a great start, including: the biology of making milk, learning your baby’s feeding cues, positions and techniques for feeding at breast/chest and by bottle, introduction to breast pumps, when to get professional support, and all the most frequently asked questions we hear from new parents.

Embodied Birth Preparation

In-Person Class

Come join Trina Baumgartner for an Embodied Birth Preparation class. In this 2hr session you will explore the anatomy of birth by dropping into your own body. Prepare to bring your baby Earth Side by exploring your breath, pelvis, and the connection between movement, gravity, your bones and soft tissue. Learn ways to connect with and nourish your body and your relationship with your baby.

Private Childbirth Education Classes

In-Person Or On Zoom

This is a private, customized childbirth education class, taught by Rebecca Durlin Smith, co-owner of Birth First Doulas. Its content and length are tailored to fit your birth location and unique birth wishes. Course topics to be selected include: relaxation tools, the birth partner’s role, birth preferences/plan, the stages of labor, birth advocacy, comfort touch and massage, which positions help when, labor rehearsal, pregnancy physiology, navigating birth challenges, and postpartum planning. Each class includes videos and electronic materials. If you are looking for a birth class crafted just for you, taught by a seasoned pro, you’ve come to the right place.

Fee: $75/hour, held over Zoom. $90/hour in-person, held at the Birth First Doulas Wellness Center (in-home option, add $50). Two-hour minimum. Strict in-person COVID protocols apply.
