Rebekka Maye, Portland Doula

Rebekka Maye, Portland Doula

My life experience has enriched my doula work by helping me to become a more empathetic, intuitive, and active listener. My goal as your doula is to hold space for you, provide comfort physically and emotionally, and encourage you to listen to your intuition as you navigate this journey called birth. My specialties as a doula include evidence based information, trauma informed care, aromatherapy, and breastfeeding support. Out of hospital birth support has a special place in my heart as well.

One of my favorite ways to connect with my clients and build relationship is over sharing a meal together. Nothing is quite like bringing a piece of yourself in the form of delicious food and creating the opportunity for honest discussion, laughter, and getting to know each other.

In addition to being a birth doula, I also love supporting families as a postpartum doula, placenta specialist, and studying to become a future childbirth educator.

I grew up in a small town out in the Gorge on 5 acres of land where we had horses, goats, chickens, etc. At university I studied American Sign Language interpreting in Minneapolis, but knew I would always make my way back to the West Coast. I love to travel and try to visit a new place every year. I’ve been to 14 countries in Europe, Canada, 40 of the states, and hopefully Mexico soon. I have a deep love for languages, culture, history, and people.

I’m so happy to be raising my 3 boys here in the PNW in such a beautiful part of the world. We love to be in nature, especially camping, hiking, and swimming.

Rebekka’s Testimonials

“Rebekka and I met at a La Leche League meeting, I found out she was a doula and she found out that I was expecting. I didn’t have a doula with my first so I had no idea what to expect. I do know that I didn’t expect to find someone who would walk me through my fears, my anxieties, my over planned lists, and ultimately my home birth. I am a hardcore type A personality. Rebekka saw that, respected that, and helped me work through things associated with type As. For the first time in a very long time, someone made space for me to feel, experience, and work through my homebirth emotions. She encouraged me to talk about my feelings, and even cheered me on when I drew them in sidewalk chalk.  She helped me practice and prepare for a homebirth by giving me strategies to cope with the intensity.  She read my never ending texts, and always knew when to respond. During the birth, she held my hand, helped remind me to breath, and told my husband how to apply counter pressure. She helped with body positioning and really encouraged me to relax.  When I attended that La Leche League meeting, I had no idea I would find someone who would help me through such an intense and intimate process, but I am forever grateful that I did. I am anxiously waiting for another positive test so I can have her by my side again!”

“I’m so thankful for my doula, Rebekka! She was such a great support and helped emotionally prepare me for the birth of my baby, Jaiden. Having her by my side in the operating room, holding my hand, created a positive birthing experience for me and the baby. So grateful she was right next to baby Jaiden comforting him while they cleaned him up and helped stabilize him. Rebekka’s compassion and the love she puts into her work means so much to us.”

Rebekka Maye is an incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and caring person. She was willing to help me through some emotional trauma associated with birth prior to our daughters arrival and catered to my needs and all my questions postpartum. 10/10!!!”

“Kat and I want to thank Rebekka for all of her help as our doula for our first child. Not being able to have family nearby and this being our first child, it was great to have her knowledge and support! As our birth plan went out the window, it was great being able to communicate with Rebekka during the labor to ensure that we had another voice to help support us during out process. And now we have a healthy baby boy! Thanks so much, Rebekka!”

TIM & KAT, se Portland

“Not only is it hard to have a baby during COVID, it’s a lot of anxiety and vulnerability that goes into it too. Thank you, Rebekka, for literally holding my hand through it all and advocating for me and being supportive through all of my labor. You’re so strong and amazing and in a short amount of time of knowing you, you have experienced an important part of my journey. Getting to know you was wonderful!”
