Trina Baumgartner, Portland Doula

I am a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Birth Doula, and Certified Lactation Counselor. When you work with me, you can expect that I will show up with kindness. I will always meet you with kindness and encourage you to be kind to yourself as you navigate the unknown waters of birth and parenthood. My hope is to meet you exactly where you are and walk with you on this journey, wherever it takes you. You can expect that I will show up with honesty. I will bring honest, evidence-based information forward to support you. I am an advocate for informed choice in all aspects of your experience. I also strive to co-create a relationship with you in which you feel safe to be your honest and truest self. And lastly, I will show up with my heart forward. Preparing for birth and becoming a parent requires heart work. I believe in you and your ability to do this. I want to help you feel good in the process of uncovering the strengths and resiliency you already possess that will see you through.

As a doula and educator, I am skilled and prepared to support you with physical and emotional comfort measures and natural pain coping techniques as well as evidence-based educational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum. I come from a movement background and my training as a prenatal yoga teacher equips me with a deep understanding of our anatomy, ways to support and balance our bodies for birth, and methods of connecting with our breath as a tool. Also, with my advanced training in lactation, I am passionate about educating my clients about feeding to help their first weeks of parenthood get off to the best start possible.

I am fairly new to Portland and enjoy exploring the many parks, hiking trails, and good food the city has to offer. I love connecting with my clients over their favorite trails, restaurants, and good books they are reading or favorite podcasts. And of course, love to share my adventures with my rescue dog, Ember.

Trina’s Testimonials

“Having a supportive, nurturing, loving experience for the birth of your child while looking for medical support in a hospital setting is totally possible with the help of Trina at Birth First. Our first birth experience was so traumatic and I knew I wanted to be more in control of my choices for my second. Trina helped walk us through our goals and then supported me as my advocate during our delivery. I was able to have the completely unmedicated birth I wanted- seriously not even an IV! We were ready to accept medical interventions if needed for my or the baby’s safety, but I was educated and informed because of the prep work I did with Trina. She is incredible and makes the experience all about what you want and need. Love her and her great, peaceful spirit.”

“Heading into the birth of our first child, it was important to me that we find a doula who could support us during labor and delivery. I found Birth First through an online search and spoke with Rebecca about the match process – she answered all of our questions and more. We were so thrilled to meet Trina and have her present not just during labor and delivery but also for prenatal visits and postpartum support. Trina exceeded our expectations, she was a calm, supportive, loving and resourceful presence before, during and after the birth of our son. We would highly recommend her, and the suite of supports offered through Birth First Doulas.”

“Katrina was there every step of the way. She lovingly guided us from prenatal to postpartum care. My first daughter was born one week after the due date. Katrina was very supportive and checked on me regularly during this waiting period, which wasn’t easy to go through. It was my first pregnancy and my goal was to have a natural birth. Having Katrina on our side, helped me a lot in reaching my goal and to feel safer during this unknown experience. Katrina was proactive in her communication and in her approach, this was comforting for us, especially as new parents. She was creating a safe space that helped us to go through the labor with trust and anxiety-free. For example, during labor, my partner and I were not sure when exactly to go to the hospital. She respected my wish to go through the labor (as most as possible) in the comfort of my home, and knew how to direct us in the process. She was assertive and knew when it was time to propose to take the next step and go to the hospital. As a bonus, she is a great photographer. She captured beautiful moments throughout the labor and birth, while at the same time she was providing positive encouragement to both my husband and me. These photographs are a priceless souvenir for us. We feel grateful to have met Katrina for my first pregnancy. She was a perfect fit for us. She provided the emotional and physical comfort my husband and I needed during this moment. She always made us feel at ease and respected. In addition, she adapted and managed very well her role during this particular Covid 19 time. She was very careful and followed all the recommendations relating to the prevention of the pandemic. Katrina is an amazing doula and I highly recommend her.”

“We are so GRATEFUL for Trina and the positive impact she had on our pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. As first time parents with little knowledge of doulas, we went from naive and anxious about labor and birth to calm and prepared after meeting with Trina and having her on our team. We chose to work with Trina for her evidence-based approach to all things childbirth, her hands-on educational style, and her judgment-free supportive and positive attitude. With a medicated hospital birth, we felt so much better equipped to make educated choices for our birthing experience and welcome our little one the best way possible for our family. We felt comfortable with Trina right off the bat and became even closer through our sessions and time spent together. Looking back on the hours spent in labor at our home with Trina, we have such fond memories of dancing, laughter, and good music. We love Trina’s balanced energy, encouraging smile, reassuring touch, and sense of humor. Her focus on both of us as parents, our new baby, and the three of us together as a family made each of us feel included, supported and connected. She will always be a cherished part of our memories from the most important day of our lives and we are already looking forward to the day we can include her in the birth of our next child.”
